Clerkenwell, Central London

DJ hire for The Artisan of Clerkenwell, central London

Club-trained, open-format DJs for parties, corporate nights and weddings at The Artisan of Clerkenwell. Central London rooms often come with tight load-ins, sound limiters and hard curfews, so we check the lot with your venue before the date and plan the night around it.

Open-format DJing for a central London crowd

Central London rooms fill with people who go out regularly, and they can tell within two tracks whether the DJ is any good. Every Choice DJ is club-trained — proper mixing, proper selection, and no cheesy mic work between records. Open-format is the point. Disco and soul while the room fills, then house, garage, R&B or hip-hop once the floor commits, with the moves between them handled properly rather than announced. Nobody gets called to the dance floor over a microphone, because a good set does that on its own. Requests get taken all night and weighed against what the room is actually doing, so the set answers the evening in front of it rather than a list printed a fortnight earlier. Whether the booking is a launch, a birthday or a wedding reception, the music changes and the standard does not. Since 2014 the collective has played more than 1,200 events across Kent, London and the South East.

Load-in and access at a city venue

Central London load-ins are a job in themselves, and getting one wrong eats into the evening. Streets around Clerkenwell are tight, kerbside space is controlled, and the gap between a room coming free and the first guests arriving can be short. So we ask the questions early rather than turning up hopeful. Where can a van stop, and for how long. Is there a lift, or does the gear go up by hand. What time are we allowed in, and is anyone else using the room before us. If access is restricted, we build the rig around what can realistically be carried through — a compact set-up that still sounds like a proper system beats a big one that never gets past the door. Whoever runs events at the venue will have all of this at their fingertips, and once you are booked we are happy to deal with them directly. Then we arrive early enough that set-up is quiet and finished well before your first guests are near the room.

Sound limiters, levels and curfews

Plenty of city venues run a sound limiter, a fixed finish time, or both. Neither causes a problem when it is planned for. Both cause one when nobody mentions them until ten o'clock. We ask the venue what applies to your booking — the limiter threshold if there is one, where the sensor sits, and what the curfew actually is — then set up to work inside it rather than against it. A properly sized system, controlled properly, holds a full and punchy sound at a level that will not trip a cut-out mid-track, which is a different thing from simply turning everything down. Curfews shape the running order too. If the music has to stop at midnight, the peak of the night wants to land before it, and the closing track wants choosing rather than whatever happens to come next. Tell us the finish time and we treat it as fixed. Pack-down then happens quietly, without a scramble in front of your guests.

Parties, corporate nights and weddings

Same DJs, different brief. We cover launches, awards evenings, Christmas parties, birthdays and city weddings, and a booking in a room like this can sit somewhere between them. Because we are a collective rather than one person with a diary, the DJ gets matched to the room and the crowd instead of being whoever happens to be free. Every booking comes with an online planning form. You set out what has to be played, what to avoid entirely, and the timings — when the room opens, where speeches or a first dance sit, how long you want the floor running. Change it as often as you like while the plans firm up. Full sound and lighting comes as standard, sized to the space rather than dropped in at one setting, with a microphone for speeches and toasts. Uplighting in your colours and a photo booth are available as add-ons. All the kit is PAT-tested and we carry full public liability insurance — venues in London ask for both as routine, and we can send the paperwork straight over.

Common questions

Before you book

What do you need to know about our venue?

The practical things, and the earlier the better. Access and load-in times, where a van can stop, whether the gear goes up in a lift or by hand, where the power is, whether a sound limiter is fitted and what the curfew is. Whoever runs events at the venue will know all of it. Once you are booked we are happy to ask them directly, so you are not stuck relaying messages between us.

How do you handle sound limiters and curfews?

We find out what applies to your booking, then set up to work inside it rather than against it. A properly sized system, controlled properly, holds a full sound without pushing a limiter into cutting the power mid-track. A curfew shapes the set as well — the peak of the night gets planned to land before the finish, and the last track gets chosen rather than landed on by accident.

How do you plan the evening around our timings?

Through the online planner. You give us the running order — doors, food, speeches, a first dance if there is one, and when you want the floor going properly — along with your must-plays and your do-not-plays. Where the venue runs its own sheet, we work to that. If timings shift on the night, and they usually shift somewhere, your DJ adjusts instead of pushing on regardless.

Do you cover corporate events as well as parties and weddings?

Yes. Our DJs work across corporate nights, launches and awards evenings, private parties and birthdays, and weddings, and they hold bar and club residencies through the year — which is where the mixing stays sharp. Tell us who is in the room, what the evening needs to do, and any music that has to be played or left alone, and we will put the right DJ on it.
