Lympne Castle Weddings

Wedding DJ hire for Lympne Castle, near Hythe

Lympne Castle sits in south-east Kent, a short run inland from Hythe and the coast. We're a collective of club-trained DJs working across Kent and the South East, and we plan every booking around the room, your timings and your music — all confirmed with the venue before the day.

How we plan sound for a historic room

Stone and high ceilings do interesting things to music. Hard surfaces tend to hold onto the top end while bass builds in the corners, so a rig that sounds punchy under a marquee can turn to mush in a room like that. None of it is a problem if you plan for it. Speakers go where they cover the dance floor rather than fire at the walls. Two smaller boxes in the right places usually beat one big stack. Levels get set by ear on the night, because a full room absorbs a lot of what an empty one throws straight back at you. If the ceremony, drinks and dancing happen in different parts of the building — common enough in older venues — we'd rather know early, because where the kit goes changes the shape of the day more than people expect. We sound-check before the first guest arrives and keep adjusting as the night moves. The aim is a dance floor you can feel through your feet and a bar you can still talk in.

Your music, planned before the day

Every booking comes with a personal online planner. Three lists — Must Plays, Play If Possible, Do Not Plays — plus the first dance, the running order and anything else the DJ needs to know. We build the night from that, then read what's actually happening in front of us. Our DJs come from clubbing backgrounds, so the mixing is proper and the selection moves with the floor instead of marching down a printed list. If you're not sure what to put down, tell us what you don't want. That's often more useful than a wishlist. Requests are welcome on the night and we'll drop them where they'll actually work. What you won't get is cheesy mic work, party games, or someone talking over the record.

Curfews, load-in and what we'll confirm

Older buildings usually come with conditions, and they vary from one to the next. Access times and load-in routes. Where the power is and what else is on the circuit. A sound limiter in the room, or a curfew written into the licence. We don't assume any of it. Once you've booked, we contact Lympne Castle directly and confirm what applies, so nothing on the night arrives as a surprise. It's worth asking a few things yourself while you're still deciding: what time the music has to stop, whether there's a limiter and what it's set to, where suppliers park and unload, and whether the dancing happens in the same room as dinner. Those four answers shape more of the evening than the playlist does. We're based near Paddock Wood, so Lympne is an easy run east for us — which means arriving with time in hand, and being set up and out of the way long before guests come through.

What's included, and what you can add

Full sound and lighting comes as standard — a rig sized to the room, dance floor lighting that lifts the space without turning the room into a nightclub, and a microphone for speeches. Uplighting is an add-on and it earns its keep in a room with stone or panelled walls, because warm colour washed up the walls after dark changes the feel of a space completely, and it photographs well. A photo booth can run alongside the set for guests who aren't dancing. If the venue has lighting of its own, we work with it rather than against it. Everything is fully insured and PAT-tested, and we'll send the certificates over if the venue asks for them. Our weddings page covers the rest of what's included and the other add-ons you can put on top.

Common questions

Before you book

What do you need to know about our venue?

Four things, mainly: what time we can get in and where we load, what power is available near the dance floor, whether there's a sound limiter, and what time the music has to finish. Once you've booked we confirm all of it with the venue directly, so you're not passing messages back and forth. If you already have the answers, send them over with your booking and we'll work from those.

How do you plan the evening around our timings?

We work back from the parts that are fixed — speeches, cake, first dance, carriages — and fill in around them. You give us the running order in the planner, and we'll flag anything that tends to cause problems, like a first dance set late in a room with an early curfew. On the night the DJ adjusts to what's actually happening rather than sticking to a schedule for its own sake.

How much say do we get over the music?

As much as you want. The planner takes your three lists, the first dance and your timings. Some couples fill every box, others leave most of it to us — both work. On the night the DJ reads the floor and takes guest requests that fit, rather than playing a fixed set start to finish.

Do you also cover Hythe, Folkestone and the rest of East Kent?

Yes. We cover East Kent — Hythe, Folkestone, Ashford, Romney Marsh and the coast — along with the rest of Kent, Greater London and the South East. If you're still comparing venues, get in touch anyway. We can talk through how different types of room tend to behave once the dancing starts, which is usually more useful than a brochure while you're deciding.
