Greenwich Venue DJs
DJ hire for the Old Royal Naval College — a riverside heritage site in Greenwich, on the Thames in south-east London. Club-trained DJs, a rig sized to the room, and a load-in planned around the building and its rules rather than in spite of them.
The Old Royal Naval College sits on the Thames at Greenwich, and it is a heritage site before it is an event space. That shapes the job. Buildings like this do a lot of the work before anyone plays a record — guests arrive already impressed, which raises the bar on everything that follows, music included. What we bring is the other half. Every Choice DJ is club-trained: proper mixing, proper selection, no stock playlist running down a laptop and no cheesy mic chatter between tracks. We read the floor and move with it. The rig is sized to the room you have actually booked rather than set once and used everywhere, and the lighting is there to flatter a space like this rather than fight it. Rooms with height, stone and hard surfaces reward restraint in the set-up and confidence on the decks. Tell us which part of the site you are using and we will build the plan around it, then confirm the detail with your coordinator.
Heritage venues run on their own terms, and the sensible move is to plan around them rather than turn up and improvise. Ahead of the date we agree access times, the route in, and where the rig can and cannot sit — confirmed with the venue rather than assumed. Sites like this often come with restricted vehicle access, a load-in window that closes, and fabric and surfaces that nothing should be dragged across or leaned against. Kit moves on trolleys. Cabling is run tidily and taped where it needs to be. Power is worth settling early too: where it comes from, how far it sits from the dance floor, and whether the venue would rather we ran from one point than several. Set-up happens inside the window we are given, not five minutes past it. All our equipment is PAT-tested and we carry full public liability insurance, with certificates sent over as soon as a venue asks. Load-out is the same discipline in reverse — quick, quiet, on time, room left as we found it.
London venues come with rules on volume and finish times, and heritage sites tend to be stricter than most. We take the brief on both from the venue, then build the night around it. Mostly that changes how the final stretch is planned. If the music has to stop at a set time, the peak needs to land before it rather than get cut off mid-track, so we shape the run-up and pick a proper closer instead of fading out on whatever happened to be playing. Volume works the same way. If the room has a limiter, or a level the venue wants held, that is a mixing job rather than a matter of turning a dial down — clean, controlled sound that carries across a big space without pushing into the ceiling. Large historic rooms are unforgiving about this: too much level and the sound turns to wash long before it gets loud. Done properly, nobody on the dance floor can tell there were limits at all.
Greenwich is one corner of a city we cover end to end. Choice DJ is a collective of club-trained DJs based near Paddock Wood in Kent, working across Kent, Greater London and the South East since 2014 — weddings, corporate events, parties and brand nights, 1200+ events between us. Our wedding DJ London page covers how we work across the capital more broadly. The short version: an online planner where you set your must plays, your play-if-possible list and your do-not-plays, then a full timing run-through so arrival, speeches, first dance and the evening reception land where you want them. Your DJ takes requests on the night and uses judgement on them. Uplighting and a photo booth are available as add-ons. Being a collective rather than one person with a diary means a busy Saturday is not automatically a no. You get one point of contact from first enquiry through to load-out, so if something changes in the run-up it goes to the same person rather than into a queue.
What's included
Common questions
Six things, and your coordinator will have all of them. The space you have booked and roughly where the dance floor sits. The load-in window and the access route, including anything about vehicles. Where power comes from and how far it is from the floor. The finish time. Whether there is a sound limiter or a level the venue wants held. And the name of whoever is running the day on site. Send what you have and we will confirm the rest with the venue directly.
Once you are booked you get our online planner. You set your must plays, your play-if-possible list and your do-not-plays, and you can change them as often as you like while plans firm up. Closer to the date we run through timings with you — arrival, speeches, cake, first dance, last song — and work to the venue's run sheet where there is one. If the finish time is fixed, we build the peak of the night so it lands before the cut-off rather than getting clipped. Running orders shift on the night, and your DJ adjusts rather than pushing on regardless.
Ask when suppliers can access the room and when that window closes, whether there is vehicle access for unloading and where to park after. Ask what time the music has to stop and whether there is a sound limiter. Ask where power is available near the dance floor. Ask whether the room turns around between the meal and the evening, and how long that takes. Ask what paperwork they need from suppliers — most want public liability insurance and PAT certificates, and we send both. Forward us the answers and we will do the rest.
Yes. We work right across Greater London, Kent and the South East, on weddings and corporate events alike. If your day starts in Greenwich and moves on somewhere else, or you are weighing up two venues before you book, send us both and we will talk you through how each one changes the timings, the set-up and the run of the night.
