Little Hermitage Weddings

Wedding DJs for The Little Hermitage

Wedding DJ hire for The Little Hermitage, near Rochester in Kent. A club-trained DJ, professional sound and lighting sized to the room you are dancing in, planning that is written down rather than remembered, and none of the cheesy mic work.

DJ hire built around your timings, not a set list

A wedding does not run to a set list, it runs to a timeline, and the two are not the same thing. You tell us the shape of the day — what time guests arrive, when the meal lands, where the speeches sit, when the first dance is called — and the DJ builds the night around those points rather than playing at them. If your venue takes one wedding at a time, there is usually some give in that timeline, so speeches running long moves the evening rather than wrecking it. If there is a hard finish or another event in the building, we plan tighter and you still get the songs that matter. Either way we would rather know early than find out on the night. Guest numbers change the job too. A smaller crowd reads differently to a three-hundred-seat ballroom — people know each other, the floor fills in a different shape, and one badly judged track empties it faster than it would in a big room. That is worth planning for rather than discovering at half nine.

Sound sized to the room, not to the van

Rooms in older or converted buildings rarely behave like a purpose-built function suite. Hard floors, plaster or stone walls, beams, and sometimes a glazed garden room — all of it changes what music does once it leaves the speakers. Bass gathers in corners, top end bounces around, and a rig that sounds punchy outdoors can turn to mush indoors. None of that is a problem if you set up for it. Speakers go where they cover the dance floor rather than the walls, we would rather run two well-placed boxes than one big stack, and levels get set by ear once the space is actually full. We sound-check before guests arrive and keep adjusting through the night. The aim is straightforward: a dance floor you feel through the floorboards, and a bar you can still hold a conversation at.

The questions worth asking your coordinator

Before the day we will ask you a handful of plain questions, and your venue coordinator will have the answers. Which room is the dancing in, and is that the same room as the meal. Where does the load-in go, and is there a step or a gravel run to cross. Where is the power. Is there a sound limiter, and if so what does it sit at. What time does music have to stop, and what time do we need to be out. What is the earliest we can get in and set up. None of these are awkward questions and no venue minds them — they are the same ones coordinators answer every week. Get them confirmed early and the day runs on rails. We will confirm access and setup times with the venue directly as well, so the rig is in, tested and tidied away long before anyone walks in for the evening.

Your list first, then the floor

Every booking comes with a personal online planner. You build three lists — must plays, play if possible and do not plays — plus the first dance, the last song and any announcements. Your DJ works from that on the night, so nothing rests on remembering a phone call from four months back, and nothing on the do not plays list gets played, whoever asks for it. From there it is about reading what is in front of you. Our DJs come from clubbing backgrounds, which means proper mixing and proper selection rather than a running order marching towards the end of the night. Requests get taken and judged against the floor. Announcements happen where they are genuinely needed, then it is straight back to the music. A full rig comes as standard, with uplighting and a photo booth available as add-ons that go in during the same setup. We are fully insured with PAT-tested equipment, and the paperwork goes to the venue without anyone chasing us for it. The Little Hermitage sits near Rochester in Kent, inside the area we cover from our base near Paddock Wood, along with Greater London and the rest of the South East. Choice DJ has been running since 2014, with over 1200 events behind us.

Common questions

Before you book

What do you need to know about our venue?

Six things, and your coordinator will have them all. Which room the dancing is in, where the load-in and the power are, whether there is a sound limiter and what it sits at, what time music has to stop, and how early we can get in to set up. Send those over and we will sort the rest with the venue directly.

How do you plan the evening around our timings?

You give us the shape of the day — arrival, meal, speeches, first dance, last song — and the DJ builds around it. If your venue takes one wedding at a time there is usually room to move, so speeches overrunning shifts the evening rather than breaking it. If the finish is fixed, tell us and we shape the last hour so the songs you actually wanted get played.

Can we choose the music, and do you take requests?

Yes to both. Your online planner covers must plays, do not plays, the first dance and anything tied to a moment. On the night the DJ takes requests from guests and reads them against what the floor is doing, so the room keeps moving instead of lurching between styles. Your do not plays list is absolute.

What if there is a sound limiter or a fixed finish time?

Check both with the venue and pass them to us. Limiters are common and entirely workable — we set the rig to run clean underneath one rather than trip it mid-track. A fixed finish shapes the set rather than ruining it, so the last few songs are the ones you actually wanted. Pack-down is quick and quiet.

Send us your date at The Little Hermitage and we will come back with the DJs who are free.
