Thanet & East Kent
Club-trained wedding DJs for Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Seafront hotels, clifftop rooms, arts and events spaces, marquees on open ground — we size the sound and lighting to the room, plan the travel into the day and load in early.
Thanet weddings rarely look like inland ones. You might be in a converted seaside hotel with tall windows and a room that carries sound in odd directions, an arts or events space with hard surfaces and a high ceiling, a clifftop room where the view does half the work, or a marquee pitched on open ground with the wind coming off the sea. Each of those needs a different rig and a different approach to volume. We size the sound and lighting to the room rather than turning up with one fixed setup. Hard rooms get tighter control and less bass bloom. Marquees get more coverage, because canvas absorbs sound rather than reflecting it. Some venues also work to a noise limit or a curfew — tell us early and we plan the set around it, so the last hour still lands.
Choice DJ is based near Paddock Wood, the far side of the county from Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. We say that plainly, because it changes how the day is planned rather than whether we take the booking. Thanet and the East Kent coast are covered, and the travel is built into the schedule instead of squeezed onto the end of it. Early load-in is standard. We arrive well before guests, get the rig in, sound-checked and tidied out of sight, then stay out of the way until we are needed. That leaves room for what coastal venues throw up — a long carry from the car park, a lift that will not take flight cases, a ceremony that runs over. None of the drive shows up in your day.
Our DJs are club-trained, and it shows in the mixing and in the reading. A wedding often has three crowds in one room — the friends who came to dance, the family who came to talk, and the people who will only move for one specific song. A DJ who watches the floor handles that. One working from a fixed script does not. Before the day you fill in an online planner: must-play, play-if-possible and do-not-play. The do-not-play list is the one couples underuse, and it is the one that protects the night. On the day we take requests, filter them against your lists and keep the mic work to what is actually needed. Our weddings page goes through the planning in more detail.
The same coverage runs along the coast. Whitstable and Herne Bay are covered, as are the towns between them and Thanet. Uplighting, a photo booth and other add-ons can come with us wherever we play — worth raising early on the coast, because extra kit changes the load-in plan. Choice DJ has been running events since 2014, more than 1200 of them across weddings, corporate nights, private parties and bar and club residencies, so coastal quirks tend to be familiar rather than new. Everything we bring is PAT-tested and we are fully insured, with the paperwork available if your venue asks for it. If you are still weighing a marquee against a room, ask us what works better for sound before you commit to either.
What's included
Common questions
Yes. We are based near Paddock Wood in West Kent, and the East Kent coast is part of our normal coverage rather than an exception. The travel is planned into the day instead of added to the end of it, and we set off early enough to load in before guests arrive. Tell us the venue when you enquire and we will confirm the timings for that journey.
Early, and earlier still on the coast. Parking, long carries and small lifts all slow a load-in down, so we build the time in. In most cases the rig is in, sound-checked and tidied away before anyone sees the room. If your venue has a tight turnaround between the ceremony and the reception, say so at the booking stage and we will plan around it.
It works, and it is common along the coast. A marquee needs more coverage than a hard-walled room, because canvas absorbs sound rather than reflecting it, so we bring a rig sized for that. Power is the thing to nail down early — generator details, where it sits, how far the run is — along with any noise limit the site is working to.
Yes. You get an online planner with three lists: must-play, play-if-possible and do-not-play. We work from those on the night, and we take requests from guests filtered against what you have told us. If you want a particular edit for the first dance or a specific track to close the night, put it in the planner and we will have it ready.
